"The artist can't change the world but they might change the consciousness of people who might change the world." Hbt marcl,,e

I am a painter who has also been exploring the creative possibilities of film and video since the early 1980's. This "Alternative" medium offers me the opportunity to express myself in ways unavailable to paint, brush and canvas. I was fascinated by the relationships of image, movement, illusion, color and sound in "Andy's Flashback". It also gave Martin Eastwood and me a chance to comment on the end of an era with the loss of Andy Warhol and with the similarities of that "Scene" with the emerging culture of the 2 I't Century. In "X Marks the Spot", Martin and I document the prevailing 80's political activism. Artists lead the fight to inform the public through words and images.
I believe artists have a responsibility to promote an ongoing public dialogue about the things we really care about. Let's keep our own questioning alive and provoke others to have questions. The subversive effect of art is critical: subvert the takenfor-granted, defamiliarize the hype, help people to "crack the codes" and emancipate themselves "to look at things as if they could be otherwise."
