BURNSIDE REMIX
This video tape concerns itself with the views of the people in the Southwest Bronx. Burnside Avenue, a commercial, residential district, whose inhabitants live in a neighborhood of burnt out buildings, fire bombed stores and rubbled lots, bears witness to the problem of the South Bronx lacking governmental support. The housing around this commercial strip is half vacant with many doorways and windows not properly sealed: an invitation to further violence. The median income for this once prosperous area was $16,000 for a family of four in 1985 when this tape was completed; a statistic from the one remaining bank in the area at that time. The unfortunate death of Eleanor occurred not far from this area.
The montages and Hip Hop music were influenced by the urban folk culture that generated from this neighborhood and continue to thrive within all areas of our mainstream culture
