Marcy B. Freedman     Listen

Marcy B. Freedman has conceived and produced a site-specific performance piece to be presented in the sculpture garden of MAXWELL FINE ARTS on Saturday, December 4th at 3:30pm and at 5:30pm.   This new work, entitled LISTEN, involves eight invited individuals, each of whom will be speaking in a language other than English.  An original musical composition by Andrew Naymark, a young singer-songwriter, has been prepared specifically for this event.

Ms. Freedman has stated that LISTEN is an embodiment of some of her basic beliefs about the human race.  She contends that acceptance and tolerance of those who are different is only the first step towards world peace.  In her opinion, it is also necessary to appreciate and to celebrate those differences.  Thus, LISTEN will provide the audience with the opportunity of hearing the beauty of eight different languages and enjoying a musical composition that synthesizes cacophony into harmony.

Marcy B. Freedman is an artist and an art historian who has worked in a variety of media and a multiplicity of styles.  Her paintings, collages, photographs, and videos have been shown in more than 175 exhibitions around the country.  A recipient of the prestigious Westchester Arts Council Award in Community Service and Education, she has taught in colleges and universities in the tri-state area, curated a number of art shows, and given public lectures on a wide variety of topics.  LISTEN is her second foray into the world of live performance art.
