TO FACE: OPEN STUDIOS 2003
PEEKSKILL ARTIST DISTRICT
SATURDAY & SUNDAY JUNE 7 & 89,12 - 4 PM
Peekskill, NY: The Peekskill Arts Council announces its 8th Annual Open
Studios: Face
to Face 2003 which will take place on Saturday & Sunday, June 7 &
8, 12 noon - 4 p.m. in the
downtown each day. Visitors can meet 50 working artists in their downtown
studios, view
exhibitions in 8 galleries and a special multimedia exhibit of 25 additional
Peekskill area artists
at the Westchester Arts Workshop, all completely free of charge.
For the first time the Open Studios event will also include the work of
local writers. The project entitled Get the Word Out will feature poetry
in storefronts throughout the downtown.
There will be two guided studio tours each day at 12 noon and 2 p.m.,
meeting at the Gazebo (comer of Park & North Division Streets). Brochures
and information for independent walking tours will also be available at
the Gazebo.
Peekskill Arts Council will provide a free shuttle service from the train
station and parking will be free in city lots all day both days.
Over the past 10 years Peekskill has become a vibrant artistic community
and is now home to over 100 professional artists living and working in
town. Larry D'Amico, Peekskill Arts Council President said, "Peekskill
is now recognized as a center for working artists who exhibit nationally
and internationally. The Open Studios weekend is a truly unique opportunity
for the public to meet artists in their workplaces."

Open Studios 2003 is made possible in part by the Peekskill Business Improvement
District and by the Arts Alive program of the Westchester Arts Council,
with fimding from the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council
